Chrislie Formulations, maker of LASHEM products, is a company created by women, for women. Recently, we’ve shared some of our favorite quotes by strong, impressive women. Today we’d like to look at the men’s perspective on women and beauty. Here are some samples of our favorite quotes by men…

“Women love us for our defects. If we have enough of them, they will forgive us everything, even our gigantic intellects.”—Oscar Wilde, Irish poet and dramatist

“There is something to me very softening in the presence of a woman, some strange influence, even if one is not in love with them, which I cannot at all account for, having no very high opinion of the sex. But yet, I always feel in better humor with myself and every thing else, if there is a woman within ken.” –Lord Byron, English poet

“The great renewal of the world will perhaps consist in this, that man and maid, freed of all false feelings and reluctances, will seek each other not as opposites, but as brother and sister, as neighbors, and will come together as human beings.” –Rainer Maria Rilke, Austro-German poet and novelist

“I must have women – there is nothing unbends the mind like them.” –John Gay, English poet and dramatist

“I like women. I don’t understand them, but I like them.” -Sean Connery, Scottish actor, producer, film director

“It’s beauty that captures your attention; personality which captures your heart.” –Oscar Wilde, Irish poet and dramatist

“Beauty is unbearable, drives us to despair, offering for a minute the glimpse of an eternity that we should like to stretch out over the whole of time.”—Albert Camus, French philosopher and author

“Beauty without expression is boring.”—Ralph Waldo Emerson, American essayist and poet

“There is no excellent beauty that hath not some strangeness in the proportion.”—Sir Francis Bacon, English philosopher and author

“There is certainly no absolute standard of beauty. That precisely is what makes its pursuit so interesting.”—John Kenneth Galbraith, Canadian economist and author

“She walks in beauty, like the night

Of cloudless climes and starry skies;

And all that’s best of dark and bright

Meet in her aspect and her eyes:

Thus mellow’d to that tender light

Which heaven to gaudy day denies…”—Lord Byron, English poet

Lashem loves how women and men continue to inspire one another across the centuries, each with their unique perspective!

From our distant childhoods, we all remember the image of Sleeping Beauty snoozing peacefully as she waits for her magical reawakening. But I’ll bet you never wondered why she slept on her back, and not on her side. Actually, Sleeping Beauty was onto something. It’s a simple beauty secret: Sleeping on your back can help prevent wrinkles, because nothing is pushing against your face. Gravity is actually working for you.

Sleeping on your side or front can cause creases across your forehead, deepen the lines that run from your nose to your mouth, and increase wrinkles around your eyes. The wrinkling can become even more pronounced as you get older, because your skin becomes thinner.

If you sleep on your back, you may be able to avoid those sleep lines that can cause a prematurely wrinkled face. Use a nice, soft pillow under your head for best results.

Here are 5 benefits of sleeping on your back:

Helps prevent sleep lines that translate into a prematurely wrinkled face. Nothing is smooshing against your face, so you help prevent wrinkles from developing or deepening.

Makes it easier for your head and spine to maintain a neutral position. You’re not forcing any curves into your back, which can morph into back pain later.

Helps prevent neck and back pain. If you want to reduce the pressure on the sciatic nerve in your lower back, tuck a big, fluffy pillow under your knees.

Helps reduce acid reflux. If your head is elevated, your stomach will be below your esophagus so acid from food digestion can’t come back up.

Helps maintain firm, perky breasts. The weight of your breasts is supported when you sleep on your back. If you sleep on your side, your girls are dangling downward and ligaments get stretched, contributing to breast sag.

Of course, there is a drawback: Snoring is usually most frequent when you sleep on your back—but that’s what earplugs are for!

Remember, simply adjusting your sleep position can make the difference between creating premature wrinkles and sagging, and maintaining a smooth face and perky breasts.

Of course, sleeping on your back isn’t the only way to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles—we also suggest Picture Perfect Instant Wrinkle Reducer. Picture Perfect creates an instant lift, smooths, and fills in fine lines. Its botanical extracts and antioxidants soothe, hydrate, and nourish skin. The special formula even includes a patented ingredient that helps reduce redness. You’ll see an immediate and long-term improvement in the appearance of fine lines, firmness, and elasticity. That should be enough to make you sleep stress-free!

With Lashem, getting your beauty sleep isn’t just a fairy tale!

Ah, spring….the sun is out, birds are singing, the air is crisper and everyone seems to be in a better mood! With all this freshness and new beginnings surrounding us, put your best face forward by giving your makeup bag a good spring cleaning and get organized. Here are some tips and Top 3 rules of thumb I’ve learned along the way – from professional makeup artists, friends and my mom – that will help guide your way:

First, lay out a towel and take everything out of the makeup bag and line up the contents on the towel. This will help in the editing and cleaning process.

Rule 1: Do you have the right makeup bag?

Whether you have one big bag or a mini for your purse, car and office, find a bag that is easy to wipe down and clean. No matter what, makeup will spill. So, choose a bag that is easy to clean on the spot.

TIP: Nylon fabric makeup bags are durable and look great. You can find them at almost any price point.

Rule 2: If you’ve had it for more than 6 months, toss it.

Like food, makeup has an expiration date. If you have an eye liner or mascara (any product that goes around the eye area) longer than 6 months, it’s time to toss it out.

TIP: If you want to disinfect the products in the meantime, lightly use alcohol wipes, including your mascara wand, and let it dry before placing back in the tube. Then replace your old one and get this: Lash Extensions in a Bottle $29.99

Rule 3: Broken and Dried-Out Products

Take a look at each product and get rid of all the nasty stuff. This includes broken eye shadows, blush that you’re scraping from the edges and dried-out liquid eye liner. My rule is if it looks nasty – toss it.

TIP: For a smooth and easy brush application, longer lasting formula that doesn’t dry-out (with a bonus: has lash enhancing serum!), try this: Lashem Colour Strokes $19.99.

Since the Kardashian’s have become part of pop culture’s vocabulary, not only have we been exposed to watching their day-to-day life on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, but we’re also getting to know way too much information about them, including Kim Kardashian’s pregnancy.

If you watched the first season of KUWTK, Kim mentions that she hates body hair so much that she famously laser-ed or has done electrolysis on every hair follicle from her neck down. (Hey, I don’t blame her. I’m part Filipino and Spanish and both nationalities are known for having a lot of hair. I mean, it’s not that out of control – but, if I could, I totally would do the same.) We’ve also witnessed countless bikini wax session episode – remember those?—eek! But now, we hear pregnancy hormones are causing her hair follicles to reactivate and grow unwanted back – btw, this is extremely common during pregnancy.

Which brings me to my point. Like KK, the only place we want fuller and natural hair to grow faster is the hair on top of our head, our brows and our lashes – without the hormones. Luckly, Lashem Lash Gel Serum helped my lashes and brows grow fuller in a natural and healthier way. After applying day and night for 2 weeks, I saw a huge difference in my lashes and my brows. It has all natural ingredients and it’s paraben-free so I feel good about using the product and I won’t have to worry if it will darken my eye area like other lash enhancing serums.

Carry on hair growth, carry on.

Eyeliner has been around forever…well, almost.

Ancient Egyptian men and women believed that cosmetics had magical power. They paid extra attention to eye makeup and usually lined their eyes with black eyeliner called kohl. The almond–shaped eyes they created with this eyeliner were meant to resemble the falcon eye of the God Horus, which was believed to magically ward off evil spirits. As a bonus, the material in the kohl might have helped protect the eyes from ocular infections. The dark pigment in kohl also helped reduce the damaging effects of sun glare on their eyes, perhaps even helping to protect the delicate skin from wrinkles that can be formed from constant exposure to desert wind, sun, and heat.

Howard Carter’s discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922 created a fascination with the look of eyeliner. Carter’s team found amazing treasures and artworks depicting the boldly lined eyes of the ancient Egyptians. These discoveries had a powerful impact on fashionable women, who started to recreate the look of the Egyptian eye by using eyeliner liberally.

Eyeliner.

Magical powers? Probably not.

Medicinal powers? Maybe.

Seductive powers? LASHEM thinks so!

LASHEM totally believes in the power of eyeliner to create a seductive look. We recommend Colour Strokes Liquid Eyeliner with Lash Enhanci

ng Serum. Its intense color frames your eyes for a dramatic look. It’s super easy to use because our ultra smooth liner brush has a precision tip for perfect application. And what’s even more amazing, Lashem Liquid Eyeliner contains a powerful, peptide-infused serum that hydrates and nourishes your lashes.

With seductive, dramatic eyes, you’ll feel like an Egyptian goddess.

“Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.” — Princess Diana of Wales

“Remember no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” —Eleanor Roosevelt, former first lady

“It takes a great deal of courage to stand up to your enemies, but even more to stand up to your friends.” — J. K. Rowling, author

“Somewhere out in this audience may even be someone who will one day follow in my footsteps, and preside over the White House as the President’s spouse. I wish him well!” - Barbara Bush, former First Lady

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”– Anne Frank, author

“Life is to be lived. If you have to support yourself, you had bloody well better find some way that is going to be interesting. And you don’t do that by sitting around.”– Katharine Hepburn, actress

“I think all women go through periods where we hate this about ourselves, we don’t like that. It’s great to get to a place where you dismiss anything you’re worried about. I find flaws attractive. I find scars attractive.”– Angelina Jolie

“A woman is like a tea bag: you cannot tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water.” –Nancy Reagan, former first lady

Red tea, black tea, green tea, white tea—all are touted for their health benefits and anti-aging properties, due to their antioxidant content.

What is the difference between red, black, green, and white teas (besides the color)?

Red tea:

Do you prefer a slightly fruity-tasting tea, without caffeine? Then brew up a cup of red tea, hot or iced. Red tea comes from a plant called Rooibos that grows in the mountains north of Cape Town, South Africa. Red tea contains flavonoids, which are antioxidant phytochemicals that have multiple health benefits. Flavonoids are found in all teas, but red tea has different flavonoids than black, green, and white teas because it comes from a different plant.

Black, green, and white teas:

These teas originate from the same plant, the Camellia Sinensis plant, which is indigenous to China. Black tea and green tea are made from the mature leaves of the plant, whereas white tea is derived from the immature buds of the plant.

How do their tastes differ?

Red tea has a slightly fruity, slightly spicy taste, compared to black, green, and white teas. These last three are primarily distinguished by the method in which they’re harvested and processed—black tea has a bold, rich taste because it is highly processed and fermented, green tea has a milder, grassy taste because it undergoes less fermentation, and white tea has a mild, floral taste. Because white tea is not fermented, it contains about 3 times the amount of antioxidants as green tea—the healthiest choice of them all.

How much caffeine do they contain?

Here’s how the caffeine content of teas and coffee stacks up (note that the numbers vary according to the amount of time the tea steeps):

8 oz Red Tea 0 mg

8 oz White Tea 30-55 mg

8 oz Green Tea 35-70 mg

8 oz Black Tea 60-90 mg

8 oz Coffee 150-200 mg

How does tea affect skin care?

Research has shown that the flavonoids in green tea and white tea prevent the activities of the enzymes that break down elastin and collagen and lead to wrinkle and loss of firmness, or premature skin aging. Plus, green tea and white tea’s antioxidant activity (the ability to neutralize harmful oxygen free radicals) helps slow down skin aging, control the development of acne and rosacea, and reduce sun damage.

What skin care products contain tea extracts?

Many skin care products contain green tea and white tea extracts for beneficial results.

Our favorites:

3 in 1 Eye Bright contains green tea extract to lift, firm, and brighten the eye area:

- Helps diminish the appearance of dark circles

- Includes patented ingredient that helps reduce redness

- Helps decrease puffiness & the appearance of fine lines

- Contains botanical extracts that soothe, hydrate, and nourish skin

Picture Perfect Instant Wrinkle Reducer boasts green tea extract as well as white tea extract as some of the anti-oxidant packed, anti-aging ingredients in an advanced formula:

- Creates an instant lift

- Temporarily smooths and fills in fine lines

- Contains botanical extracts and antioxidants that soothe, hydrate, and nourish skin

- Includes a patented ingredient that helps reduce redness

- Helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles in the short term & in the long term

So before you sit down to enjoy your cup of tea, make sure that your morning routine includes a skin care regimen with ingredients that include green tea extract and white tea extract. Think of tea as the “T” in BEAUTY!

The next time you travel by plane, make sure that the bags you carry are your suitcases, not under eye bags!

The stress of air travel, combined with altitude, recycled air, and confined space can speed you toward potential skin problems. Here are some tips on how to keep your skin looking healthy, refreshed, and youthful when you’re 35,000 feet in the air and a time zone or two away from home.

1. Drink water, and lots of it. Water is your best travel buddy. Cabin pressure and recycled air dehydrate your skin, and drinking water is absolutely crucial to maintain healthy-looking skin. Unfortunately, drinking Diet Coke or coffee doesn’t count because the caffeine in them is dehydrating. And forgo the glass of champagne or wine. Alcoholic drinks will also dehydrate you and make your skin appear dull. Remember—by the time you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated. Here are some other signs of the early stages of dehydration: dry mouth and lips, gummy or sticky-feeling mouth, headache, or dizziness. Don’t get to those early stages—drink a lot of water before, during, and after your flight to help replenish the moisture in your skin.

2. Minimize your make-up—and maximize your moisturizer. Forgo your make-up routine when you fly so you can let your skin breathe. You should even avoid wearing mascara which can flake and irritate your eyes. In addition to drinking lots of water, apply and reapply a hydrating moisturizer. Even better, apply a tinted moisturizer. And if you’d really rather not touch down with a bare face, pack some oversized shades and swipe on a coat of red lipstick before you exit the plane.

3. Although you may be hungry, resist the temptation to munch on salty snacks. They may be free, but not worth the price of getting a bloated and dehydrated look. Pack your own beauty lunch—raw fruits and vegetables like carrots and apples are filled with water and nutrients for healthier-looking skin.

For travel-ready skin care, we suggest that you also include one extra item in your cosmetics tote: LASHEM 3 in 1 Eye Bright.

3 in 1 Eye Bright contains a special formula infused with botanical extracts that help moisturize the skin, decrease the look of puffiness, and smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. For healthier-looking skin, apply a small amount of 3 in 1 Eye Bright around the eyes every night after cleansing.

Use these tips to stay beautiful and fresh while traveling. And stay tuned … this summer, LASHEM will launch the amazing Travel Solution—3 beauty treatments in 1 travel-size component. It’s the passport to beauty for savvy women on the go!
